KABUL (SW) – The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Thursday approved the Euro 65 loan agreement with the Italian government with a majority vote.
According to the budget and financial affairs commission of the house, these funds would be made available to the Afghan government by the Italian government for the Herat – Kawaf rail link with Iran. The funds would be released in three phases for the fourth phase of this railway line.
As per the agreement, the loan agreement is for 40 years with a 29-year warning period, the budget and financial affairs commission said. After the briefing by the commission, the deal was tabled for voting, and it sailed through with a majority vote.
The agreement for the fourth phase of Herat – Kawaf rail link was signed earlier this year between the Afghanistan Railway Authority and a private firm from Kazakhstan.
