KABUL (SW) – Members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) have collected their maiden monthly salaries despite rendering literally no service to the public since occupying their seats.
In conversation with Salam Watandar, a number of WJ members lamented the fact that many of their colleagues collected their salaries despite rendering no service to the nation.
One such MP, Bilqis Roshan, said the ongoing troubles over the election of WJ speaker hindered the legislation process form beginning. She said the parliamentarians rendered no service last month, and instead indulged in troubles, but took away their salaries ‘shamelessly’.
Another MP, Syed Hassan, said the Wolesi Jirga members did not deserve the salaries, and the money should instead be given to the victims of the ongoing war in the country.
Based on reports, each MP gets a salary of AFN 240,000 per month.
