KABUL (SW): A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members demanded the government to put ‘pro-Taliban’ elements trial.

Taking part in the general debate on Wednesday, these members grilled the former president Hamid Karzai over his latest remarks relating to the Taliban. Karzai pronounced the Taliban in an interview as ‘brethrens’ and added that Afghans have been made to fight each other. Members of the house claimed that there are a numbers of elements are actively conspiring against the government and in favour of the militants.

Ghulam Hussain Nasiri, a member of the house stated that Kunduz is under Talibans’ assaults and the city has been ruined. “It is shameful and against logic to call the enemy as a brother”, Nasiri added.  Shekiba Hashimi, a female member of the house, said that there are numbers of individuals who seemingly support the security forces but are actually sympathetic towards the enemies of people. She noted that according to Article 182 of the Constitution, such people deserved to be hanged.

Pointing towards Karzai’s statements, Sayed Ali Kazimi, another member of the house, stated that the government should clearly define the nature of current conflict..
