KABUL (SW): A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members on Saturday lashed out at the Hezb-e-Islami chief Gulbuddin Hekmatyar for his latest remarks regarding war in Afghanistan.
A few days ago, the Hezb-e-Islami leader told a grand gathering of his party in Kabul that the fightings in north of the country, in Baghlan and Ghor in particular, have ethnic flare and the government shall act to put an end to it.
Nazeefa Zaki and Raihana Azad, two such WJ members, said during general debate in the house that Hekmatyar has a bloody past in connection with the civil war in Afghanistan, and he should now refrain from flaring-up ethnic differences.
Abdul Wali Niazi, another member of the house, said on the occasion the fighting in Afghanistan is a regional conflict and spy agencies are involved manipulating internal parties of the conflict. He added some politicians eyeing an eminent defeat seek refuge behind ethnic groups. He added Hekmatyar was actively fighting against the government, sending car bombs to Kabul before inking a peace deal, and shall now avoid labelling the war in Afghanistan as a ‘an ethnic war’.
Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, without naming anyone, expressed regret over labelling of the war as an ‘ethnic war’.
Meanwhile, in a clarification, Hekmatyar said a day earlier that his comments have been taken out of context by some media outlets.
