KABUL (SW): The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) had its last session before winter holidays on Wednesday in which calls were made for the security of lawmakers.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, Speaker of the house urged upon the government to take practical measures for the security of lawmakers. He regretted that the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has issued to directives in this regard so far. He also urged the security organs to play their role to safeguard the members of the parliament.
Also today, Irfanullah Irfan, Secretary of the house presented the annual report of the Wolesi Jirga. The report indicated that the WJ held 51 sessions this year. The report added that it approved 39 documents and rejected 7 presidential decrees. It noted that different commissions of the house held 55 meetings and addressed more than 1500 complaints.
The parliament has the right to have three-month holidays with 45-days in summer and 45 more in winter.
