KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Commission has announced those Wolesi Jirga (lower house) candidates winning less than 2 per cent of corresponding votes in their constituencies would be fined.
Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, spokesman for the IEC, has said such candidates would be penalized with a fine of AFN 30,000. He added this amount would be deducted from the guarantee money the candidates have deposited with the IEC.
The spokesman further said the candidates winning more than 2 per cent of the corresponding votes their respective constituencies would not be fined.
The EJ polls were held in October last year, but widespread allegations of rampant fraud and irregularities have marred the pending outcomes from a number of provinces.
