KABUL (SW) – A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) candidates staged yet another protest demonstration against alleged rigging in the October polls.
They blamed the Independent Election Commission secretary of widespread corruption. The agitators dubbed the Arg’s (presidential palace) alleged interference in the electoral affairs as ‘treason’. They threatened the government and the international organizations would be face the peoples’ wrath if the allegedly continued to pressurize the Independent Election Complaint Commission.
Two such protesting WJ candidates, Hassan Jan Dawlatzai and Siddiq Mansur Ansari, said the IECC’s initial decision of declaring the Kabul votes as void should be upheld, and the officials responsible for irregularities should be referred to legal institutions.
However, deputy spokesman for the IECC, Zabihullah Sadat, said the protesters should refer to legal institutions instead of taking to the streets that only cause troubles to the masses.
The IECC has noted receiving up to 1000 complaints in connection with the WJ polls. It has pledged to announce the results on due time.
