KABUL (SW) – The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Saturday condemned the killing of Japanese aid worker, Testu Nakamura in Jalalabad earlier this week.

In today’s session, speaker Mir Rehman Rehmani, dubbed the killing of Nakamura and his five Afghan colleagues as unforgiveable

Taking part in the debate, a number of parliamentarians said rigorous investigations should be conducted to expose the culprits behind the killing and bring them to justice. There were also calls for naming schools and boulevards after the iconic Japanese aid worker.

President Ashraf Ghani awarded honorary citizenship to Nakamura earlier this year for his services to the country.

The slain Japanese aid worker was widely respected for his work in promoting irrigation and agriculture in this part of the country. He took charge of Japanese charity, Peace Medical Service, in 2008 after the abduction and subsequent killing of his countrymen, Kazuya Ito.
