KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Complaint Commission on Monday warned candidates against campaigning for the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections ahead of the official announcement.
Ali Raza Rouhani, secretary of the IECC, told a presser in this connection any candidate found guilty of campaigning for the polls ahead of the official announcement, would be held accountable. He said complaints in this regard are under investigations across the country, and would soon be made public.
Meanwhile, Yosuf Rasheed, chief executive officer of the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan, said the IECC should have issued the guidelines without any delay. He said many candidates lack the knowledge and awareness.
As per the IECC rules, the candidates can only begin campaign from the 28 September. However, many candidates have already commenced intensive campaign for the polls due in October this year.
