WJ aspirants protest against electoral commissions

KABUL (SW) – A number of candidates for the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Saturday demonstrated against the electoral commission for removing their names from the list of candidates.

Among them, Fawzia Kofi, member of the WJ from Badakhshan, said the government has deliberately removed certain candidates from the list in line with its political agenda. She said those protesting against this move by the government are ‘true representatives’ of the people.

Allah Gul Mujahded, an MP from Kabul, is another candidate removed from the list by the electoral commission.

In a separate demonstration, Mujahed said his name has been removed on the pressure of the National Unit Government. Acknowledging having armed militia, Mujahed said he has fought against foreign invaders in the country for forty years.

Meanwhile, Ali Reza Rouhani, spokesman for the Independent Election Compliant Commission, has clarified the final list of candidates is yet to be published, and those left out can lodge complain against it.
