KABUL (SW): Wolesi Jirga (lower house) approved Masoom Stanekzai as the chief of National Directorate of Security (NDS) and Abdullah Khan Habibi as the minister of defense on Monday.
Stanekzai received 161 votes out of 224 lawmakers available during today’s session while Habibi received 167 votes.
Mohammad Zaman Sangari also won 137 votes as a member of the High Council of the Supreme Court.
Before the voting process, Masoom Stanekzai said that he would spare no efforts to improve security in the country if he could win enough votes as the NDS chief.
He said that he would expand the role of technology in ensuring security in Afghanistan.
Abdullah Habibi said that if he could win enough votes, he would intensify night operations against the militants.
As the fate of Ministry of Defense and NDS is decided now, different parts of the country witnessed suicide attacks today.
A suicide attack targeted a minibus carrying Nepali security guards in Kabul and hours later another explosion took place in Chehlsutun area in the capital city.
Elsewhere in northern province Badakhshan, an explosive-laden motorbike was detonated in Kishm district which left 9 dead and 30 more injured.
