KABUL (SW) – The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Monday approved the fiscal budget for 2019-20 worth AFN 399 billion.
The house voted on the draft budget a month after the Ministry of Finance tabled it for approval in the house. Up to 49 per cent of the budget would be supported through domestic means and 51 per cent through international support. This is the first time in the past three years that the house approved the draft budget without first rejecting it.
Mohammad Azeem Mohseni, chairman of the budget and financial affairs committee of the house, said on the occasion budget should not be allocated for newly proposed directorates until the due legal process is completed. Similarly, based on the recommendations of the MPs, the supplementary budget has been approved for four directorates only related to the NDS, the National Security Council, and the ministries of defense and interior.
