WJ angry over reports about dissolution of the house

KABUL (SW): Members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Saturday expressed anger towards reports about dissolution of the house.

A number of parliamentarians said President Ashraf Ghani in a meeting with administrative representatives of the house has warned to dissolve the parliament if ministers of the security sector are summoned repeatedly.

Abdul Latif Pedram, a member of the WJ, expressed resentment against the warning by the President. He said the President does not have the legal right to dissolve the parliament. “The President was angry when he made the statement”, believed Pedram.

Other members of the house also questioned the legitimacy of the National Unity Government (NUG) to dissolve the parliament.

Mirwais Yasini, another member of the house, said a government (NUG) which came to power through ‘fraud and rigged elections’, cannot dissolve the parliament.

But, Homayun Homayun, deputy speaker of the WJ, who had a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani, assured the members that no one has the right to interfere in the affairs of the WJ. “The Afghan Constitution is clear about the rights of the WJ to make inquiries from ministers,  the proposal of twenty percent of all its members is already there  to make inquiries from the security  ministers”, informed Homayun.

He refrained from giving further information about his meeting with the President.

Meanwhile, Dawa Khan Minapal, deputy spokesman for the President, told Salam Watandar that President Ghani has not spoken to anyone about dissolving the Parliament.

This comes as the WJ has decided to summon security officials over the heinous attack on the Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital.
