KABUL (SW) – President Mohammed Ashraf Ghani has said the Afghan people have no problem with the withdrawal of the U.S. troops, but the matter should be discussed with the Afghan government, not the Taliban.
According to the presidential palace, Ghani said this talking to foreign news correspondents on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort of Davos. “The Afghan people have no problem with the withdrawal of US troops, but it is important to negotiate, and if it is negotiated with the Taliban, it will mean start of another war, and if with the Afghan government, it can be managed" the statement said.
President Ghani said in part of his remarks that the government wanted to set the tone and direction for peace in line with the cease-fire reached with the Taliban in 2017. He insisted that Afghan citizens want an end to the war, not reduction in violence as the ceasefire shows that Afghans have a real commitment to political dialogue.
The President added that the Afghan people, especially women, are not turning back and that the Taliban will not be acceptable to our society if they insist to impose themselves.
