KABUL(SW):Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer has said the government would enter peace talks with the Taliban from a position of strength.

Addressing a press conference at his office on Sunday, Abdullah emphasized that the National Unity Government would not spare any effort in ensuring peace and security in the country.

In a clear reference to those backing the Taliban, he said the terrorist groups were detrimental for all countries of the region. He dubbed the terrorists as enemy of the world and humanity. The CEO added the government is fully determined to uproot terrorism from Afghanistan.

Touching upon Kunduz’s incident, he said that the crimes and brutality the Taliban have committed in the Kunduz indicated that a new approach was required to handle the rebels as they have become more violent.

He termed the 3-days occupation of Kunduz by the Taliban as war crime. Abdullah stressed that re-building of the province was a top priority.

In a statement issues on Thursday, the Taliban said exit of the foreign troops was their basic demand to resume the stalled peace talks.

On Saturday, Sayed Zafar Hashimi, Deputy Presidential Spokesman, made it clear that the Taliban must obey the Constitution of the country and respect the gains made over 14 years for the peace talks to resume.

The first round of peace talks was held in Muree, Pakistan during the month of Ramadan earlier this year. It was decided in the first round that the second round would soon be held but the news of Mullah Mohammad Omar’s death postponed the second round of talks for unspecific period of time.
