PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW) – The whereabouts of 170 tons of wheat granted by charity organizations for needy people in Baghlan remains unclear.
According to the well-placed sources, this amount of wheat was handed over to the provincial council members and the chairman.
However, a number of internally displaced persons as well as needy families in the province said they have not received this aid. They blamed the provincial council members of distributing the wheat among their body guards and selling the remaining stock in the market.
Abida, a women who has lost two sons to the raging war, said she obtained the coupon to get the aid, but has not been given the promised wheat.
However, Shah Jehan Ayubi, a member of the provincial council, said the wheat aid has already been distributed among the poor and needy people in Baghlan. He added all people with the coupon for aid received the wheat.
According to Sharifullah Shafaq, head for the directorate of refugees and repatriation, as many as 30,000 families have been forced to flee their homes due to recent spate of violence here. He added the provincial council has not asked the directorate for the list of these displaced people.
