KABUL (SW): In a clear reference to the latest terrorist attacks in Kabul, Kunduz and other parts of the country, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said on Sunday the weakened enemy was targeting civilians in a bid to distract attention.
Ghani held a security conference with relative officials at the Arg (Presidential Palace) this afternoon. The official communiqué said he directed security heads to use their experience in curbing further attacks and crushing the enemy. He urged them to best utilize their abilities and resources by curbing corruption in their respective institutions.
The President stressed that security in the capital and all other major cities should be enhanced to stop further bloodshed.
On Friday, more than 50 people lost lives as coordinated militant attacks rocked the capital Kabul. Similar attack in the northern Kunduz province killed 29 pro-government militia members on Saturday. Taliban took responsibility for the attacks.
It is vital to note, Mullah Akhtar, the new Taliban leader hinted in his maiden message that they (Taliban) were not weakened and would forcefully fight the government forces. About the split in Taliban's ranks, there have been multiple reports suggesting various militant commanders are not happy with Mansoor’s selection as the new supreme leader.
