KABUL (SW) – The Election Watch Organization of Afghanistan (EWA) on Thursday casted doubts over the prospects of fair and timely elections amid lack of funds and capacity at the electoral commissions.
Habibullah Shinwari, member of the EWA, told a presser here that the Independent Election Compliant Commission lacks funds and resources to execute its duties. He charged the government for not issuing funds for the IECC. He expressed fear the lack of coordination between the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the IECC would seriously undermine the prospects for timely and transparent elections in the country.
The Election Watch Organization of Afghanistan (EWA) also criticized lack of cooperation by the Independent Directorate of Civil Services (IDCS) towards the electoral commissions and ambiguity in regard to the post of the IEC secretary. This watchdog urged the IECC to share with public details related to the assets and credentials of the candidates for the forthcoming district and parliamentary elections.
