KUDUZ (SW): A number of Kunduz residents launched protest demonstration against what they call ‘unjust’ distribution of aid for the war affected families in the province.
In the Gulla area of Khan Abad district, the demonstrators said that the survey team for war affected families has just listed their relatives in the list for receiving aid. They complained that the survey team has totally ignored the ‘real’ victims.
Nasruddin, one of the protestors, told Salam Watandar that the survey team for war affected families came to his street and just listed the names of those who were familiar to them. Another protestor Jamshid also complained that three times they went to the local authorities to register their complaints but to no avail.
This demonstration took place at a time when the National Unity Government (NUG) has decided to compensate each affected family with AFN 10,000 in cash.
Meanwhile, Miraqa Etibar, the head for Natural Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in the province, who is also the head of survey team for the war affected families in Kunduz, asserted that the government has allocated AFN 144 million for as many as 14,800 war affected families. He noted that so far only AFN 70 million has been released by the government. Etibar added that the local government has only received AFN 35 million that have been distributed among 3,144 war affected families.
Based on statistics, as many as 40,000 families are living in 8 districts of the Kunduz city. Local officials stated that many of these families are in dire need of aid.
