KUDUZ (SW): A number of Kunduz residents have launched protest demonstration against what they call “the unjust distribution of aid for the war affected families” in the province.
Gathering in Gulla-e area of Khan Abad, the demonstrators said that the survey team for war affected families have just listed acquaints and relatives for receiving aid. They complained that the survey team has totally ignored the literal war affected families.
Nasruddin, a protestor, told Salam Watandar that the survey team for war affected families came to my street and just listed the names of those who were familiar to them. Protestor Jamshid also complained that for three times they went to the local authorities to bring their complaints in notice. Nobody has paid attention to us, he added.
The demonstration came after the National Unity Government (NUG) decided to compensate each literal war affected family with AFN 10,000 cash.
The protestors, on the other hand, claim that the survey team for war affected families including local government have committed unjust distribution of aid in the city.
Miraqa Etibar, the head for Natural Disaster Management department in the province and the head for survey team for the war affected families, however stated that the central government has decided to compensate AFN 144 million for as many as 14,800 war affected families. He noted that so far only AFN 70 million of this amount has been approved by the central government. Etibar added that up to now the local government has just received AFN 35 million and distributed it to 3,144 war affected families.
The head for Natural Disaster Management however noted that the amount designated to war affected families does not suffice. He said that the local government would keep listing the war affected families continue in case the central government agrees more aid for them.
Based on statistics, as many as 4,000 families are living in 8 districts of the Kunduz city. Local officials stated that several of these 4,000 families are in dire need of relief.
