SHEBERGHAN (SW) _ Representatives of the Turkmen community staged a protest demonstration in Jawzjan on Saturday against the vice president, Abdul Rasheed Dostum, and provincial governor, Lutfullah Azizi.
They charged the VP and the governor for denying the Turkmen community their due rights, and not allowing deputy governor, Abdul Qadir Malia to take charge. They said the VP is not allowing officials to implement the directives of the president in the province.
Jawra Pahlawan, one of the protesters, said the protests would be expanded if the VP did not allow the deputy governor to take charge.
In a counter demonstration, protesters in the province vowed they would not accept Abdul Qadir Malia to take charge as deputy governor. They said the new deputy governor has been appointed by the presidential palace to take forward the president’s election campaign.
They asserted the VP has the legal authority to hire and fire officials.
Commenting on the situation, Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, provincial police chief, said there are no hurdles in implementing orders here. Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the Junbish-e-Islami party and the Jawzjan governor, but to no avail.
