KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Complaint Commission announced here on Thursday that the vote cast in at least 20 provinces would be re-counted.
Addressing a press conference, the IECC commissioner, Mohammad Qasim Elyasi, said the votes cast for presidential polls at some 870 polling stations in Laghman, Panjshir, Baghlan, Ghazni, Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz, Sar-e-Pul, Ghor, Zabul, Herat, Nimroz and a number of other provinces need to be recounted.
He expressed hope up to 95 per cent of the electoral complaints would be addressed by Monday next week. Commissioner Elyasi further said appeals have been lodged against preliminary results in a number of provinces, but no decision has been made in regard to the votes in Kabul.
A number of election observers, including Mubeenullah Aimaq, expressed fears this would further prolong the review process. He added persistent problems might cause further delays.
This comes as the IECC was supposed to complete review of the complaints against the preliminary results today.
