KABUL (SW) – Voter registration finally began on Saturday for the forthcoming key presidential elections, the electoral commission announced.
Hava Alam Nuristani, chief of the Independent Election Commission, told a press conference here on Saturday that this would be a complementary registration to the previous one for the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) polls last year. She said the registration would continue for a month.
She noted those citizens who have recently returned from abroad and have not registered previously as well as those recently reaching the legal age of 18 years and those who have changed the address of their constituencies can register with the IEC.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced last week it is facing an upheaval task of holding presidential polls on Sep. 28 later this year.
