KABUL (SW) – The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission on Tuesday called for participation of women in the proposed peace process.
Addressing a moot, Sima Samar, chairperson for the AIHRC, said women have paid sacrifices and their rights have been violated. She said peace is the need of the nation, however, peace should be sustainable and guarantee human rights, rights of women and security for the gains of past many years.
Sima Samar said peace cannot be achieved until people are not confident about justice. She stressed women should approach the mothers and sisters of the rebels to compel them to lay down arms. The AIHRC chairperson demanded those who are charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity should seek apology and start living normal lives.
She said there is no winner or loser in the ragging war, and efforts should be expedited for justice and lasting peace.
