Vaccine again Rotavirus added to the immunization program

27/01/2018

KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Saturday announced to add the Rotavirus vaccine to the immunization program in a bid to save children from serious diarrhea.

Rotavirus is the most common cause of serious diarrhea in babies and young children. It usually affects children between the ages of 6 and 24 months of age. Without vaccine, almost all children will have at least one episode of rotavirus diarrhea before they turn 5 years old.

Ferozuddin Feroz, Minister for Public Health, told a moot in this connection that the new vaccine would become part of the rest of 12 vaccines currently part of the immunization program. He said Afghanistan has 30 per cent more victims of serious diarrhea compared to the other countries in the world.

The move has been hailed by many mothers believing this would safeguard the children under five from serious diarrhea.
