KABUL (SW): Abdul Jabar Qahraman, Deputy for Ministry of Defense, said that the deployment of additional US troops to the restive southern province Helmand would have a positive impact and we would appreciate it.
According to the Guardian, the new troops would be stationed in Helmand to provide Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) with skills and advice and would stay there by the end of 2016.
Qahraman told Salam Watandar said that there are enough troops in Helmand who fight the militants with a high spirit but until they stand on their own feet, they would continue to need logistics and military support from foreign troops.
The Deputy further said that ANSF should make most of the training and advices provided by the US troops.
Hamdullah, a member of civil society in Helmand, expressed optimism about the US new deployment to Helmand and hoped that their presence would have a positive impact on the security situation in the province.
Abdul Ghafar Gardezi, a political expert, however said that the new deployment would not have any impact in terms of improving security situation in Helmand or in any other provinces because the British and the US troops were stationed in Helmand and did nothing to improve the security in Helmand.
Gardizi, said that it is the US which has control of continuing or stopping the fighting in Afghanistan.
Helmand is considered as one of the major bases of the militants and currently the fighting between security forces and the Taliban are flaring up in the province.
