TARINKOT/ GHAZNI CITY/ PUL-I-ALAM (SW): In at least two deadly incidents of brazen attacks on Saturday, at least 15 militant and three civilians that included two religious figures died in Ghazni and Uruzgan provinces.
Fighting between the Taliban and Afghan National Police (ANP) in Ghazni left 15 militants dead and 14 more injured. Confirming the news, Asadullah Ensafi, Security Director for the provincial police department, told SW that during the fighting, which lasted for 24 hours, the militants sustained casualties in Shaghli and Gorgan villages in Qarabagh district.
He added that some Taliban commanders were also among the dead and the different types of guns they were fighting with were confiscated by security forces. Ensafi added that security forces sustained no casualties in the fighting.
Qarabagh is one of Ghazni’s restive districts where Taliban, according to the residents, have great influence and control over some of its villages.
Elsewhere, a convoy of Raheemullah Khan, the Provincial Director for Security came under militants’ attack that left three people in his convoy dead. Dost Mohammad Nayab, spokesman for the provincial government said Raheemullah was on his way at Kandahar-Urozgan highway to attend a gathering of the tribal and religious elders.
The official said head of the Urozgan Ulema Council Mawlawi Laal Mohamamd, a tribal elder Ahmad Shah Khan and one security personnel died in the attack.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior stated on Saturday that the ANP conducted several anti-terrorism joint operations with Afghan National Army (ANA) and the spy agency NDS to clear some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.The operations were conducted in Baghlan, Takhar, Kunduz, Faryab, Sar-e-Pul, Zabul, Oruzgan and Helmand provinces, as a result 20 armed insurgents were killed, 10 wounded and two others were arrested by Afghan National Security Forces, it added.
