MAIMANA CITY(SW): The United Nations staff who fled the provincial capital of northern Faryab province due to the recent insecurity would return to Maimana City within a week, officials said.

UNAMA officials said that all the related staff of the UNAMA, UNHCR, UNICEF, and WFP left Maimana because of intense situations and due to a report about an eminent Taliban attack on Maimana city.

Lutfullah Barez, Spokesman for UNAMA in the north, told Salamwatandar that the UNAMA is still active and was only temporarily not functioning.

Security officials in Faryab said that security situation has improved and people should not be worried about the security situation in Faryab.

Baryali Basharyar Parwani, Faryab Police Chief, told Salamwatandar that all United Nations’ staff would return to Faryab within two days and the security forces stationed there would do their best to ensure their security.

United Nations’ staff immediately left Maimana city 8 days ago and fled to Mazar-i-Sharif, capital of neighboring Balkh province.
