United Nations: Daesh makes inroads in 25 provinces in Afghanistan

26/09/2015

KABUL(SW): Based on a recent UN’s report, Daesh has made inroads in 25 provinces in Afghanistan and is rapidly expanding.

Quoting Afghanistan security forces, the report added that about 10 percent of Taliban have pledged allegiance to ISIS and have joined them.

Daesh emerged in the early 2014 and rapidly expanded in Iraq and Syria with its leader Abubaker ul Baghdadi, who asked Mullah Omar to declare his support for him but Taliban leader rejected him.

It seems that Daesh is making inroads in Afghanistan and makes efforts to politically and militarily isolate Taliban.

The report added that 70 percent of Daesh fighters have come to Afghanistan from abroad.

Daesh is currently fighting in the eastern provinces especially in Nangarhar.

Some members of this group fight Taliban in the south and southwestern areas as well.

The report further added that government of Afghanistan and military forces have yet to consider Daesh as” direct and serious threat” but new information indicated that considering new recruitments Daesh could pose a grave threat to Afghanistan’s security and stability.
