KABUL (SW): The National Union of Afghanistan Workers and Employees (NUAWE) on Wednesday urged the government to meet its promises on eliminating the menace of drug addiction, child labor and unemployment.
NUAWE organized a moot at its premises in this regard attended by civil society activists from 22 provinces from across the country. Ghulam Ali Baryal, deputy chairman of the NUAWE, said on the occasion the government has made repeated promises to address the issues of unemployment, child labor and drug addiction, but these factors continue to fuel unrest in the country.
Baryal said a large number of children continue to work as bounded laborers in brick kilns deprived of all basic rights. “Why hasn’t the government taken measures against it”, he asked. The NUAWE deputy stressed the level of unemployment and drug addiction could have been much lower had the government met its promises in this regard.
Civil society representatives at the NUAWE moot recommended a number of solutions to the government for the eradication of these issues. It included development of dams to promote agriculture, serious measures against drug traffickers, and other measures to eliminate unemployment.
