Roya Dadras, spokesman for the MoWA, said this while sharing details about the ministry’s study into the matter jointly conducted with the UNICEF, the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disable and the UN.
According to the study, 78 per cent of the respondents said usually parents decide in most cases of underage marriages while 55 per cent respondents said the views of those going to get married should also be consulted.
Roya Dadras added in the past six months, the MoWA completed the process of drafting marriage registration law and policies to improve women's access to heritage and property rights, and has also established 20 centers for women’s health and psychological counseling in the capital Kabul and in provinces.
