BADAKHSHAN (SW): Mahbood Rahman Talat, a member of Badakhshan provincial council told Salam Watandar that the unbalanced implementation of development projects in Badakhshan has deprived the residents of remote districts of Badakhshan from the benefits of these projects.
Talat added that most of the development projects have been implemented in the districts closer to the center of Badakhshan. According to him, in 7 years, not even a single project has been implemented in the remote districts in Badakhshan.
Sayed Omar Bahir, a civil society activist in Badakhshan also expressed concern over the unplanned implementation of these projects in Badakhshan saying that the influences of the powerful people on these projects have caused the unfair distribution of these projects among districts.
According to him, the districts which have representatives in the Wolesi Jirga or provincial council member have been taken the largest share of the development projects.
However, the officials from the Badakhshan Directorate of Economy said that a new development plan has been received from the Ministry of Economy which will solve the problem.
According to these officials, the authority to identify the needs for development projects and select the area will be handed over to the community leaders and provincial council members in the districts.
