KABUL (SW) – The United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, Tadamichi Yamamoto, along with his delegation has met head of the Taliban’s political office in Qatar, Mullah Baradar Akhund, in Doha.
This was announced by the group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed, in a statement. He said the extensive discussions revolved around the ongoing peace process, civilian casualties and humanitarian aid in areas under the Taliban control.
Mullah Akhund encouraged the head of UNAMA and his delegation to strictly adhere to the principles of impartiality in such issues and to appropriately discharge their responsibilities in the discussed arenas, it added.
According to the statement, Tadamichi Yamamoto showed his appreciation for the decrease in civilian casualties caused by the Taliban, gave assurances of progress in the said matters and of maintaining constant communication.
