BADGHES (SW) – Officials in Badghes told Salam Watandar the U.S forces conducted air and ground operation in the restive Joyend district last night.
Abdullah Afzali, deputy chairman for the provincial council, said the allied forces liberated up to 40 Daesh rebels from the Taliban custody, including 30 foreign fighters and five women, during this operation and took them away.
The provincial council deputy chairman said these Daesh fighters, which included militants from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, China and other countries, were brought here six months ago by the Taliban from the Garzivan district of Faryab province.
Spokesman for the provincial governor, Jamshed Shahabi, has confirmed the operation. He claimed 18 Taliban rebels and 10 Daesh militants got killed in the operation, and 40 Daesh fighters have been taken into custody. He said soon the Afghan forces would launch extensive operation to clear the restive Panj Buz valley of the rebels in the Joyend district.
The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed, has also tweeted about this matter.
