WASHINGTON DC-KABUL (SW): United States’ Department of Defense announced that the actual number of American troops deployed in Afghanistan is 11 thousand. This comes as previously the figure was announced around 8,400 troops.
U.S. officials said that the number includes ordinary, special, secret and temporary US troops.
Meanwhile, the United States intends to send 4 thousand more troops under the new strategy of President Donald Trump for Afghanistan.
Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie, the Joint Staff Director at Pentagon, stated that "unintended consequences" had followed the decision by former President Barack Obama to set a ceiling of 8,400 troops for the country last July, disrupting the American military commanders’ ability to deploy full units.
U.S. President Trump announced troops surge in Afghanistan last Monday under its new strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia.
