KABUL (SW): American media has reported that the U.S. Department of Defense is using B-52 bombers to suppress terrorists in Afghanistan.
But, Afghan experts believe that the use of B-52s in the Afghan war is not appropriate; "because the war in Afghanistan is mostly in the villages". According to them, civilian casualties will increase if B-52 air-crafts are used in Afghanistan.
Atiqullah Amarkhail, a military expert, talking to Salam Watandar said the use of the B-52 in the war in Afghanistan will shake the spirit of the terrorists, but the use these planes would harm people more.
Mohammad Radmanesh, the deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, said that the use of B-52s in the Afghan war has not yet been finalized and this is a proposal. According to him, the Afghan security forces with their own facilities can also suppress the terrorists. “The geography of the Afghan war is complex, and terrorists are hiding in the mountain caves, therefore, their repression is time-consuming for the security forces. The Afghan security forces and foreign forces will never bomb places where the civilians will be harmed” added Radmanesh.
But, civilian casualties have recently been reported as a result of airstrikes by Afghan security forces and foreign troops.
The latest report by Civil Protection Advocacy Group (CPAG) indicates that in the ongoing war in Afghanistan 254 civilians were killed and 366 wounded in the month of August. To read more on this story, click here.
