U-19 cricket team off to Malaysia to play Youth Asia Cup

KABUL (SW): Afghanistan’s national Under-19 team has left for Malaysia to play the U-19 Youth Asia Cup scheduled to be held among eight teams from 9th-20th November.

Fareed Hotak, director media relations for the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), informed Salam Watandar that the national squad held a training camp in India before leaving for Malaysia. Besides the host Malaysia, teams from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are taking part in this competition.

The eight teams are divided in two groups with Afghanistan having Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the UAE in its group. The other group is comprised of India, Nepal, Malaysia and Bangladesh.

In its first match, Afghanistan would take on Pakistan on the first day of the competition on November 10 at 06:00 Afghanistan time. The tournament would go on till November 19. Afghanistan would face Sri Lanka on November 11 and the UAE on November 14.

Last year, Afghanistan performed well at the U-19 Youth Asia Cup held in Sri Lanka by defeating Pakistan and Singapore before losing to the champion India in the semi-finals.
