JALALABAD (SW): Pakistan has said two of its diplomats went missing in Afghanistan on Sunday.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has said the diplomats serving at the consulate in Jalalabad city, the capital of Nangarhar province, were on their way towards the Torkham-Landi Kotal crossing point between the two countries, which is at a distance approximately two hours from Jalalabad. The FO has stated Islamabad is in constant contact with Afghan authorities, and the matter of the diplomats' safety and recovery at the earliest has been raised with the relevant officials.

"Pakistan has requested the Afghan government that all efforts may be made to ensure early recovery of our officials and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice," the FO statement said. It noted Afghanistan is cooperating in the efforts to "probe the incident" and recover the two diplomats.

Attaullah Khogyani, the spokesman for the provincial governor of Nangarhar province, told Salam Watandar investigations have begun to assess the situation.
