SHEBERGHAN (SW): The pro-Daesh rebels have moved the two abducted employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from Qosh Tapa district to Darzab district in northern Jawzjan province.
A well-placed source has told Salam Watandar the abducted ICRC employees have been moved to the Chakana village in the Darzab district. The source added the pro-Daesh rebels are busy in consultation about the fate of the ICRC employees. Last week, the rebels killed six members of an ICRC convoy that was on its way to provide aid to snow-affected villages in Jawzjan. Two members of this team are believed to be still under the militants’ captivity.
Meanwhile, the local authorities have expressed determination to liberate the two men. Lutfullah Azizi, provincial governor, told Salam Watandar the efforts are underway to ensure safe release of the abducted ICRC employees. He added if peaceful efforts after consultation with the local elders failed to yield results, the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) would be tasked to launch military operation to liberate the abducted men.
An investigation team from the capital Kabul led by a high-level officer from the Ministry of Defense (MoD) has also reached Jawzjan to probe the incident. The local community in Jawzjan, however, has expressed concerns over the suspension of ICRC activities in the country.
