MAIMANA (SW): Local officials in western Faryab province have confirmed the death of two girls who were raped after being kidnapped.
Abdul Jamil Seddiqui, acting chief of the Qaisar district, told SW that the two victims were kidnapped from Bori village in Qaisar district on Sunday. Their dead bodies were found near the village on Tuesday, he said.
Seddiqui added the victims were aged between 17 and 18 years.
The acting district chief said motives behind the incident were not known yet as the investigation team was busy probing the tragic incident.
He noted that one man has been taken into custody on suspicion.
Confirming brutal killing of the two young women, the provincial chapter of Afghanistan’s Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) stated that the two women were on their way to consult a local mullah who was sells amulets that are so called useful in curing diseases and solving social problems.
Condemning the incident, Hafizullah Fetrat, AIHRC Faryab Head urged security officials to ensure safety of women. He said though it was not proven yet if this too was a case of honor killing but so far three incident of honor killings have occurred in the current year in this province.
