KABUL (SW): Multiple casualties are feared as twin-suicide attacks rocked Kabul on Tuesday. The attack took place in the southern part of the city near the historic Darul Aman palace.
According to the Ministry of Interior, 25 people have lost their lives in this attack. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. The country’s top spy agency National Directorate of Security (NDS) was the target of this attack.
According to the eye witnesses, at first a lone suicide attacker on foot detonated his explosives, and minutes later a car laden with explosives exploded, which caused most damage.
Claiming responsibility for the attack, the Taliban have asserted that up to 70 security officials have been killed. Zabehullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban said in a message that 30 members of the NDS died in the first attack while 40 men of the police died in the second one.
The Afghan government and international community have condemned the attack. In a statement, UNAMA condemned yesterday’s Kabul and Kandahar attacks that claimed the lives of more than 40 people, mainly civilians and including representatives of the diplomatic community. Such unprincipled, unlawful and deplorable attacks cause immense human suffering and make the peace that Afghans need and deserve even more difficult to achieve,” said Pernille Kardel, the Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan.
