KABUL (SW) -Voting concluded on the second and final day for the long-due Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections at 18:00hrs.
Abdul Badi Sayad, head of the Independent Election Commission, told a presser later in the evening that the turnout was 45 per cent. He said 67 per cent male and 33 per cent female participated in the polls, and a total of around four million people cast their votes.
The IEC chief urged people not to spread fake and premature results, and only rely on official results. He said results from provinces would soon reach center, and would be announced swiftly. Sayad also urged political parties to closely monitor the process for transparency.
Faced by technical glitches and delays, the WJ polls were extended for second day on Sunday.
