KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Energy and Water on Wednesday inked a deal with a Turkish firm for the Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (TAP) power transmission project.
According to Mohammad Gul Khilmi, minister of the MoEW, the Turkish firm, Calik Holding, would invest up to $ 1.6 billion in this project. The project includes 500kV transmission line and two circuits with a capacity of 2000 megawatts as well as construction of 500kV substations in Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
The capacity of the transmission line for Afghanistan has been considered at 1000 megawatts which would be completed over a period of three years. And, 1000 megawatts of electricity would be transmitted to Pakistan that would produce up to 100 million US Dollars in transit fees for Afghanistan besides receiving the required electricity for domestic needs.
Ahmad Calik, head of the Calik Holding, said the company would soon begin survey for the project.
