Turkey hands over historic Pashto book to Afghanistan

01/03/2017

KABUL (SW): The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) on Tuesday handed over an 18th century historic book on Sufism written in Pashto to the Afghan officials.

The book ‘Al-Tohfat Al-Qadiriyyah ’ was written in the 1722-23 by the then Afghan Sufi writer Ibn-Munir. A Turkish diplomat stationed in Kabul accidently found it in a book store in Dublin, Ireland two years ago as he was searching for books in Kurdish language on Islam during the Ottoman Era.

In a ceremony in this connection, Sulaiman Shaheen, director TIKA in Afghanistan, said Turkey values its historic brotherly ties with Afghanistan. He vowed to continue support for the social and cultural sectors in Afghanistan. He added the owners of the book store in Dublin had kept this historic Pashto book in the Kurdish language section since they were not familiar with this language.

With the financial support of TIKA, this historic book has been published fresh in good quality and handed over to the Afghans.

Lal Pacha, Advisor to the Afghan President, read the message of Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on the occasion. Ghani hailed the time-tested friendly ties between the two nations that have so much in common. He thanked the Turkish government for its continued support in the security and social sectors.
