KABUL (SW): Representatives of Turk Tabar community on Saturday staged protest demonstration in Kabul demanding incorporation of their ethnicity on the proposed biometric identity cards.
Azeem Khanjani, head of the Dari speaking Turk Tabars’ Community, urged the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) to urge the government on this matter. He clarified the Turk Tabars are not Tajiks, and they should be liberated form this ‘imposed identity’.
Khanjani said the Turk Tabars have no issue with the term ‘Afghan’ as nationality on the identity cards, but their ethnicity should also be incorporated on the cards.
After holding talks with the protesters, the WJ member, Makhdoom Abdaalullah Mohammadi, infomred the Turk Tabars claim to comprise of 50 sub-ethnic groups who wish to unite under one group now. The protesters also demanded President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to issue a decree in this regard.
This comes as the President Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah have differences over the identity cards.
