Trump’s move on Jerusalem condemned worldwide

KABUL (SW): US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and therefore ordered the transfer of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital has been met with a wave of disapproval around the world and has aroused concern from the Afghan government as well. The media office of the President Ghani has published a newsletter that the US decision to transfer its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem has harassed the emotions of all Muslims in the world and jeopardized the peace process in the Middle East.

The newsletter said that the National Unity Government and the people of Afghanistan together with other Muslims around the world want to secure the rights of the Palestinian people to have an independent state.

In another part of this newsletter, it is said that Jerusalem as a first holly place of all Muslims, must be recognized on the basis of international law, the United Nations resolutions and the will of millions of Muslims around the world.

Meanwhile, CEO of National Unity Government, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, in a news conference, reacted to the decision’s of trupm and, said that the Palestinians have the right to live in peace and this decision does not help to consolidate peace in the Middle East.

Similarly, a number of Jihadist parties in Afghanistan also have shown reaction to trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The leader of Islamic Dawah Party of Afghanistan, Abdul Rab al-Rasul Sayyaf, also warned against the implications of this decision, saying that the United States should prevent the harsh consequences of this new decision.

On the other hand, Ishaq Atmar, a political commentator on the announcement of Jerusalem as Irael’s capital, said that with this decision, the possibility of violence and bloodshed in Palestine and Arab countries may increase.

The European Union and the United Nations have also expressed concern that with the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and the transfer of the US Embassy to the city, the solution of the two independent states is endangered in achieving a lasting peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, announced his opposition to the “unilateral decision” that “could jeopardize the prospect of peace for Israelis and Palestinians”, and said, “now at this moment of great anxiety, I want to make it clear that there can be no other way to peace other than the two-state solution. There is no alternative to the two-state solution. There is no Plan B. The subject of Jerusalem is the last issue to be addressed in the negotiations between the two sides”.

France has ruled out Trump’s decision as a “unilateral decision”. Britain has said that the Trump’s decision does not contribute to peace, and the only solution to the conflict in Jerusalem is; that this city which is known by two names can be divided in two parts; Palestinian and Israeli parts based on an agreement that could be reached at the negotiation table.

Russia’s deputy foreign minister, in response to Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, said Moscow would criticize the position of the President of the United States on Jerusalem in the United Nations’ Security Council.

Palestinians of West Bank and Gaza Strip expressed their anger against the US decision with a protest last night.

Hundreds of Turkish citizens also protested against the decision of Trump about Quds (Jerusalem) on Wednesday in front of the US General Consulate in Istanbul.

Many Jordanian cities also saw the protest rallies against Trump’s decision. Hundreds of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon also flooded the streets to protest Trump’s decision. Demonstrators from Rashedia camp in southern Lebanon slammed the US decision.

Meanwhile, the al-Aqsa mosque’s courtyard lights were drowned at the same time as announcement of Donald Trump’s decision on Jerusalem last night, and according to reporters and witnesses, the action was taken to protest the US decision about Jerusalem.

The Foreign Ministry of Iraq rejected the decision of US President Donald Trump. The ministry warned that this decision would lead the region to an unknown future.   

Saudi Arabia also condemned Donald Trump’s decision, calling it unjustifiable and irresponsible.

The Jerusalem Embassy Act to transfer the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was passed by US Congress in 1995, but was withheld because in 1999 it was recognized that it would endanger the US national security. Since then, US presidents have postponed Congress’s Embassy Act of 1995, every six months.
