KABUL (SW) – Revenue collection by the Ministry of Transport has improved significantly following an extensive drive for reforms, Mohammad Hameed Tahmasi, the minister claimed on Tuesday.
The minister told journalists here that up to 64 former officials of the ministry have been referred to the judicial organs over charges of corruption. He added new people have been assigned in the ministry, rules and regulations reformed to improve performance and revenue collection of the ministry.
He said the revenue collection of this ministry has improved by two hundred per cent in the capital Kabul alone, and the revenue collection has improved by 48 per cent nationwide in the first half of the current year in comparison to the previous year thanks to the reforms introduced here.
Tahmasi said the ministry collected revenue worth AFN 739 million in the first half of the previous year and during the first half of this year, it has swollen to over a billion afghani.
Printing of new tariff receipts and reclaiming of the ministry’s properties nationwide were also cited as the reasons behind the improved revenue collection.
