Traffic tickets earn government a fortune

16/01/2016

KABUL (SW): Officials at Kabul Traffic Department said that the department has collected afn 70 million from traffic tickets over the past 9 months.

General Asadullah, Director for Kabul Traffic Department, told Salam Watandar that the department has made enough income by developing and implementing traffic tickets system and penalizing those drivers who have violated the traffic rules and regulations.

He added that traffic violations and expired driving license have doubled the income.

The plan for traffic ticket was developed a decade ago but citizens believed that some agents at the department misuse their positions by forging counterfeit traffic tickets through which they can earn a lot of money for themselves.

Asaddullah, while refusing the allegations about counterfeit traffic tickets, said that the tickets are assessed by the officials at the department on a daily basis.

The amount of income claimed by the officials at the Kabul Traffic Department doesn’t seem realistic since there is a general assumption about corruption at the department.
