KABUL (SW): Officials at the Kabul traffic department said that the collection of Right Hand Drive cars has started since April 21.

Sayed Mahboob, director of Traffic department in Kabul told Salam Watandar that the permits for the RHD cars were renewed for 5 years, under the approval of Council of Ministers in 2012, but now the time has expired and all RHD vehicles will be collected by the customs and traffic department.

According to Mahboob, RHD vehicles will be collected across the country and will be scrapped and then handed over to their owners.

Irshad Popal, director of Kabul’s customs also said that the collection of RHD vehicles began on April 21, and this will continue until all such cars are seized.

RHD vehicles are plying on the streets in all cities of Afghanistan, and according to some reports, these cars have been the major causes for most of the traffic accidents on the highways across the country.
