KABUL (SW): A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members on Wednesday lamented that some politicians are aiming to orchestrate the traditional Loya Jirga (grand council) on the pretext of addressing the prevailing issues in the country.
Some members of the house went on to say that a number of former government leaders are imposing their wish on the public with this tactic. Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house, said on the occasion that there is no mention of the traditional Loya Jirga in the Constitution, hence it does not have any legal weight.
Meanwhile, Massoud Tarshtwal, spokesman for the Council for Peace and Salvation group, told a press conference today that the political groups pushing for the traditional Loya Jirga should instead call for the Constitutional Loya Jirga.
This comes at a time when former president Hamid Karzai and a number of other former officials have time and again called for the formation of the traditional Loya Jirga for the resolution of problems faced by the country.
